They have a small lot, or there is plentiful parking within walking distance.
Any night there is a band downstairs
No. Just the one
Seated right next to a warm fire, sipping on a cold one, smothered steak tips entree with mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach, great company solo entertainment in the background. I understand why the Grog is celebrating 40 years. Worth a visit if you haven't been. GF options too!
Ordered their butternut squash ravioli and I’ve never tasted something so awful. It came out in a sugary soup with canned fruit swimming around it and crasins sprinkled on top. Not sure how you over cook frozen raviolis, but it happened. My mom had the burger and that was pretty good. I guess the point of this post is to keep away from non pub food. Cheers!
One of my happy places within my happiest place, Newburyport.Consistently very good for over 40 years.
So many delicious craft beers and unique menu! Everything is amazing. Staff is great, waitress both times have been fast and kind. Pub kind of atmosphere. They have live music every week.
Place rules spend your money here. Request Graciella or the cool guy with the glasses as your server because their skills are sharp. You won't be disappointed .
Today was terrible. Will never come back. Food was not as ordered. Food substitutes were not quality at all. Sorry they ran out of certain items. Should have been told before long wait. Quantity of food was nothing compared to the past. Can I give a negative star?
Great neighborhood bar and restaurant. Never disappoints.
Burgers are excellent! Live music every weekend. Jazz/Blues on Sundays & other bands on on Fridays & Saturday. No cover for ladies on ladies night (call to find out when).
The food is phenomenal. Standouts include the lobster rangoon, lobster bisque, and the fisherman's platter.
Every time my girlfriend and I are in Newburyport we eat here. Great food! And friendly service!
Great place, the best chowder and great service! The Grog has the best atmosphere. I would have given them five stars but it was cold in there.....turn the heat on. It's January!
Three floors with something for everyone. Great local music and outstanding staff!
The Grog is our "Cheers." Warm friendly atmosphere, fireplaces, delicious food, lots of choices, and you can always get a seat. We like the upstairs bar when it's busy downstairs. And there's lots of music! A Newburyport institution. What more could you want?
Had lunch with 3 kids my wife, mother in law and father in law. Staff was accommodating. Menu had something for everyone in our party and we have some picky eaters. Also kids got an ice cream with their kids meals. Price very reasonable. Overall a very good experience.
Wait staff is very rude. Management is inattentive. Food is passable but not worth the lousy experience.
Good food, good service. Very clean and nice decor. They have an upstairs area that is very appropriate for Wedding Dinners and is very cozy and private.
Ahi tuna salad...yummy!!!
Relaxed and friendly environment. Family and friends alike. Good drinks and food. Service was attentive and understanding with a welcoming attitude.
Cozy decor, good food and good drinks. Service was lack-luster and often missing.
We stop here for lunch when we visit the Parker River Wildlife Refuge. The Fish and Chips is good, and I recommend getting it with sweet potato fries. Not the cheapest lunch but the place has a lot of character, and you can have a conversation without being assailed with wall to wall television screens.
Great food
Lobster bisque was good but BLT was weak. I dont expect much when I go to new places but had heard that this place had great food. Atmosphere was good, staff polite but if you looking for a food experience in new England find somewhere else to go.
You must eat here! The Bouillabaisse is incredible!Great atmosphere and beer. Enjoy!
The Grog in Newburyport has been around for a long time. You can see what gives it its staying power when you go there for lunch like we did today. We wanted a light lunch so we ordered an onion soup and chili and 2 beers. The food was very good, the draft beers were great. The atmosphere is casual at the grog but thst is what you would expect when you walk through the door. And the prices are what you expect. The total cost was $23, with the tip the total came to 28. What a deal. I highly recommend it.
Good service and excellent foodDid! I mention qwairnt atmosphere
My wife & I use to be going over there a few times and always order the oysters but lastly the oysters was not good , no fresh any more!! Yesterday 7/18/20 went and order a dozen & their no fresh, saddle we decided not to come back again!!. The staff was nice and friendly.
Large but cozy pub, spread out over 3 floors. Lots of beer taps. Liked that they offered 4 ounce pours of anything, for a reasonable price, so you didn’t have to commit to a full pint of something you didn’t like. Had the grog burger and it was big and juicy. I’d come here again when I’m in the area.
I went here specifically for the blues jam that they have on Sunday Evenings. Music was very good, although in the broad spectrum that is blues, this was medium to high intensity, and I personally am more of a delta blues kind of chick, LOL. It was fairly loud. But the musicians were all very talented.I was checking out what people were eating when we walked through the restaurant and it looked really, really good. Although we did not eat while we were there.
Best Burgers in Newburyport! Awesome staff and so many different floors all with very nice decor and they all are just so cozy and relaxing feeling.
Chris, our waiter, was very attentive. The food was excellent, as usual! This was the first time I had the beet salad, but it won't be the last!I also HIGHLY recommend the mussels in coconut curry---AMAZING!Order extra bread for dipping in the broth, AND say YES to bringing home the leftover broth for an amazing lunch the next day!☺️☺️☺️
I had a great fish and chips here. I should know, Im British.
I had the with Silver Burger; came w bacon, onion, spinach, melted bri cheese, special sauce (?). Only reason why I didn't give it 5 🌟 is because the burger was overcooked but still a good burger and great service. I'd come come back!
Super nice employees and such a great historical place. Loved by locals and traveled to by visitors
At 1:30 pm on a Sunday, presumably past the lunch crowd, the wait for a table was about 25 minutes before we were seated at one that had been open all along. The server was slow to be proactive but responsive to requests...like ordering, drink refills, etc... The food was pretty good and the quantity was excellent. The menu is lengthy and eclectic, so lots to choose from. There is a small parking lot adjacent to the restaurant, a bonus in the center of Newburyport. The interior has a charming old timey pub feel.
Solid. Always solid. Don't go cause it wall cause me a wait. Lol. Really good food and drinks reasonably priced. Again...don't go. Unless you're on line after me...
The Grog is a nice venue with good food and drink. Live music really helps to make the atmosphere. The prices aren't bad, and the staff is friendly. You can tell it's a great place with the crowd it draws! Worth checking out if you're in the area.
Very good food, service, and ambience. Nice comfortable place to eat well. Really enjoyed my fried brussel sprouts.
Very good food with a selection of salads, sandwiches, entrees. Reasonably priced
The Grog was a rich and wonderful experience. The food was delicious! Thank you!
Easy parking with a short walk--Tuesday $1 0ysters!
Food and service were very good
This site is my first choice place. Of all restaurants I know I like it most. I never miss an opportunity to go to that place. everytime I feel like having a superb meal, this restaurant comes first to my head. very good and diverse food and a large list of dishes.courteous crew, and pleasant atmosphere. Also important, the charge is modest. I recommend this spot with pleasure.
Great food....reasonable prices....staff very good
Food was amazing I loved the atmosphere and our server was also amazing!
So happy that we stopped at The Grog for lunch. The service was excellent and food delicious! I got the brie/pear/bacon/turkey panini with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was AMAZING! We also got a bacon cheeseburger and they cooked it perfect medium rare with so much cheddar that any cheese lover would be in heaven. We also tried the clam chowder which was not the thick and creamy kind I usually love but surprisingly it was absolutely delicious and had huge pieces of clams and potatoes vs minced clams which takes it over the top! We definitely will be back!!!
Classic and excellent American dining fare restaurant and bar in the center of Newburyport. I have been going here for a long time (over 10 years) and can assure you this is an excellent place to go to for lunch or dinner. The food is delicious, portions are good sized, and service is very friendly. They have lots of beer on tap too. Overall a tried and tested favorite of mine when in the Newburyport area.
I always need to stop at the Grog when in Newburyport. We've been going to Plum Island for 45 years and always have a great experience at the Grog. The staff is extremely frendly and the food is wonderful. This time I had the bouillabaisse. It was loaded with fresh fish. Somone else had the fish tacos which they said were very good. The Grog has a large selection of beers as well as specialty cocktails. The atmosphere is casual and cozy.
The food was plentiful and beer selection was full. Lively crowd with a solid wood interior
Good food, average service. It's an institution and worth going to, but better to go on a slow night
Newburyport is a tough market. If you can make it here...with such a trendy foodie demand, then as a restaurant, you've made it. Considered by locals to be the place for dinner, the Grog has comfort food and pure indulgence. The wait staff is busy but attentive. The food is memorable and not overpriced. My only complaint? Since I'm not an IPA fan, the craft beer menu really needs to add more options beyond IPAs. That's it. Grab a date, or some family. On a Friday or Saturday night if you like bustling fun, sit downstairs. If you like a quiet place eat upstairs...but for God's sake...if you eat upstairs, bring the class. It's not the same bar atmosphere as downstairs. Enjoy.
